If you are new to this centuries old tradition, Plein Air is a French phrase "en plein air", it literally means 'in the open air'. And while painting out in the open air is a familiar concept today, in the late 1800's when the Impressionists ventured out of their studios into nature to investigate and capture the effects of sunlight during different times of day on a subject, it was quite a revolutionary idea. The Plein Air Collector's Preview Party unveiled various winners from competitions on Friday evening May 16th.
72 artists and photographers from five states were juried into this year's juried competition, along with 25 students from 10 area schools districts for the student competition. Check out all of This Year's Participants.
Much of the festival with vendors, exhibitors, music, food and events was based in Willow Park at 24th and Market Streets in Camp Hill on Saturday, May 17th, with other activities nearby. Visitors were able to walk Market Street and other tree-lined streets and alleyways of the historic Camp Hill Borough with its Victorian-style houses, watching and talking with artists as they paint.
